The frontend cluster Ela is accessible via ssh from external sites as ela.cscs.ch.
The operating system on the login nodes is SUSE SLES 11 SP3.
|Model||IBM x3650 M4 Server|
|3 Login Nodes||2 x Intel® Xeon® E5-2650 v2 @ 2.60GHz (16 cores, 32 virtual cores with hyperthreading enabled)|
|Theoretical Peak Performance||499.2 GFLOPS|
|Memory Capacity per node||64 GB (DDR3-1600)|
|Max memory bandwidth||59.7 GB/s|
|Total System Memory||192 GB DDR3|
The software environment on Ela is controlled using the modules framework, which gives an easy and flexible mechanism to access simple tools only, since you should not build any code on the system.
In fact, no programming environment is provided on the frontend. You can get information on a specific module using the following commands (in the example below, change <module> with the module name):
$ module avail <module>
$ module show <module>
$ module help <module>
The system is connected through high-speed interconnects to the different filesystems available (GPFS, file transfer, etc…).
