Today the European Commission has confirmed the news already published by Nature last Friday (and in the CSCS blog »), that the Human Brain and the Graphene projects are the two European projects awarded with 1 billion Euros over a period of 10 years. One of the partners of the Human Brain Project led by Professor Henry Markram at EPF Lausanne is indeed the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) in Lugano. CSCS director Thomas Schulthess sees the involvement of CSCS twofold: First, CSCS will coordinate the four supercomputer centres participating in the project, and second, CSCS will develop the simulation platform in collaboration with EPF Lausanne.

Oggi la Commissione Europea ha confermato la notizia pubblicata venerdì scorso su Nature (e sul blog del CSCS ») che “Human Brain” (Cervello Umano) e “Graphene” sono i due progetti europei premiati con 1 miliardo di euro distribuiti nell’arco di 10 anni. Uno dei partner del progetto il cui responsabile è il professor Henry Markram dell’EPF Lausanne è proprio il Centro Svizzero di Calcolo Scientifico (CSCS) a Lugano. Il direttore del CSCS, Thomas Schulthess descrive il doppio ruolo che il nostro centro ricoprirà in questa collaborazione: prima di tutto il CSCS coordinerà i quattro centri di calcolo coinvolti nel progetto, e poi svilupperà la piattaforma di simulazione in collaborazione con il centro di calcolo.
