As mentioned on several occasions, PALU is going to be upgraded soon. The system is going down for maintenance for about one week in order to be upgraded to a Cray XK6.
The machine will be shut down on Wednesday, October 19th at 7:00 am and should be back up and running no later than Wednesday,
November 2nd at 9:00 am. Once back, the system will not be called PALU any longer, but TöDI ( todi.cscs.ch ) , referring to the highest
mountain in the Glarus alps.
We would like to recall your attention on the following points:
- TöDI is the first GPU/CPU hybrid system at CSCS. It features 176 nodes, each with 16-core AMD Opteron CPU, 32 GB DDR3 memory and one NVIDIA Tesla X2090 GPU with 6 GB of GDDR5 memory.
- The programming environment changes completely. All applications will need to be recompiled.
Be aware that TöDI is the new development system. The usage policy remains unchanged :
- Prime Time 8AM – 6PM: no production runs are allowed. Only jobs with a wall clock time of 1 hr can be submitted for development purposes.
- Non Prime Time 6PM – 8AM + Weekends: free for production runs.
Because the CPU part of TöDI is identical to what ROSA will be after the upgrade in November (an email with all the details will follow soon) all ROSA users who wish to recompile their codes and test them are more then welcome to apply for an account on TöDI. However, once the upgrade of ROSA is completed, priority on TöDI will be given to users who wish to profit from the GPU architecture of the system.
